With Canada’s soldiers deeply involved in the war in Afghanistan, Herald reporter Michelle Lang went to the country to report for the Calgary Herald and Canwest (now known as Postmedia) News. While travelling with soldiers in a convoy, their vehicle was rocked by a roadside bomb. Four soldiers, along with the 34-year-old Lang, died in the attack. Lang was the first and only Canadian reporter to die while on the job reporting for a Canadian media outlet during the Afghanistan mission.
