The Winnipeg Free Press published the first pink paper in North America. Every section carried news about breast cancer and a portion of proceeds from sales was donated to cancer charities. Winnipeggers were inspired by the story of Marijana Dumbovic's battle with breast cancer. She appeared bald and strong, in all her glory, on the front page of the paper and became the poster girl for strength in the face of adversity.
